Inspection and evaluation of the state of conservation of asbestos-containing materials (ACM) and man-made vitreous fibres (MMVF), that are present in different areas of the ILVA plant in Taranto, in order to carry out a risk assessment.
- inspection of the working areas to assess the state of conservation of asbestos-containing materials, already known and listed, the presence and the state of conservation of asbestos-containing materials and the presence of MMVF (man-made vitreous fibres)
- assessment of the risk of exposure to airborne asbestos fibres and man-made vitreous fibres, by means of sample-taking and analysis by scanning electron microscopy (SEM)
- preparation of the inspection and assessment report, photographic documentation, sample analysis certificates and assessment of their results, including samples of materials which may contain asbestos
In particular, our intervention included:
- Installation of 2 office containers and storage for equipment and PPE

- Samples were taken and sent to the Accredia accredited laboratory, to be analysed to determine the average diameter of alkaline oxides and alkaline/earth oxides, certificates were issued for the analysis of large samples of MMVF (man-made vitreous fibres)
- Assessment of the state of degradation of ACM by means of the methods required by applicable regulations (VERSAR)
- Preparation of a final document for each area, including the inspection report - photographic report - application of methods to be used for the evaluation of the state of conservation of ACM by means of the methods required by applicable regulation - Plans identifying the sampling points - Analysis certificates - Tabulation of results
